Austin Kleon came to town a couple weeks ago, one of the first handful of stops on his book tour for his second release, Steal Like an Artist. The Right Brain Initiative of Portland’s Regional Arts and Culture Council collaborated with PNCA to bring him here, and his presentation was hosted at the Museum of Contemporary Craft (you can listen to the podcast on PNCA’s Multimedia Archive).

Productive Isolation

I’m in Providence, Rhode Island for a wedding this weekend, but I thought I would share some of the remarkable productive isolation I’ve been experiencing so far. Our four-hour flight to Chicago turned into a four-hour layover in the Midway airport, which then finished with a two-hour flight to Providence. Aside from the thrill of take-off and landing, though, I love airplanes for the amount of productivity and focus that they foster.

Bookshelf: Start With Why

Two weeks ago, I wrote about the importance of learning to talk about yourself, and one key component to that is knowing WHY you do what you do. In researching and writing that article, I watched Simon Sinek’s TEDx talk for the second time, and remembered why I loved it the first time around last year. As engaging as his 18-minute presentation was, I wanted to know more, so I swung by Powell’s and picked up his book, Start With Why.
